President sends Army to three districts

President Jose Ramos Horta has asked for the Timorese Defense Force
(F-FDTL) to be deployed in the three eastern districts of Lautem, Baucau
and Viqueque, following the shooting death of a National Congress for
Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) team-member on June 2.

The President made the announcement in an address to nation after CNRT
supporter, Afonso Kudalai, was shot dead by an off duty police officer
in the eastern district of Viqueque.

The President said he had instructed F-FDTL Commander, Brigadier General
Taur Matan Ruak to coordinate with the International Stabilization
Forces on their deployment to the three eastern regions, in order to
secure the areas for the local people.
