East Timor Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao will visit New Zealand later this week.
The former militant who became East Timor's first president will hold talks with government ministers during his two day stay.
Prime Minister Helen Clark says his visit is to show appreciation for New Zealand assistance for East Timor since its independence in 1999.
Talks will also cover the future role New Zealand has to play in East Timor.
