An Australian Army automatic gun was Tuesday, 24/4/07, found by a civilian in Ermera District in East Timor. The gun was on the side of the road close to area of Aifu in Ermera when Mr Mesquita, a Portuguese citizen, found while driving.
Noticing that was an Australian gun fully loaded and with telescope he returned to Ermera to return it. On the way he found two Australian soldiers, their name Doig and Heena, and returned the gun to them.
Australian army in Dili, East Timor, has officially thanked Mr Mesquita for his good deed in returning the gun and assured him an investigation is on to avoid events like this happening in future.
